Explanation of my mask and its message
The message is simple, so I wanted to keep the ingredients simple : a blue piece of fabric, a bit of a yellow life jacket, a fake fish and an « x » made from modeling clay. Using modeling clay was a way to imply that we should stop playing with natural resources and the contrasting colors was also important to me: it makes the message stronger and clearer.
My solution to the environmental crisis
Fish less and better. If you keep on fishing the way we do now (too much, with bad nets, too few regulations, etc.), commercial fish stocks will inevitably collapse, as many have already done. From a consumer’s point of view, the solution is to eat fish and if we really want to eat some, select the fish according to their species (forget about top predators such as shark, swordfish and tuna, forget about shrimp and farmed salmon too) and the fishing method used (avoid everything fished by deep sea bottom trawling for instance). In a nutshell, buy small and fast reproducing species such as sardines, anchovies or mackerel (although these are not completely exempt from problems either)!
