Huge happening in LYON on the 27th january 2019

Did you make any new year’s resolutions to help the environment this year? Why not continue to act while developing your creativity! At the beginning of 2019, Art Of Change 21 is partnering the Lyon Climat citizen collective for a giant Maskbook-related happening on 27th January; for the first time, art is invited to a climate rally in Lyon, alongside the environmentally conscious people of the city.

The richness of the union between creativity and the environment will be further consolidated by this spectacular project. The program includes a gigantic human chain that will surround the “presqu’île” of Lyon, with more than 10,000 expected participants. Everyone who partakes in the chain will be invited to wear a self-created Maskbook, designed to the wearer’s specifications and sensitivities. The Maskbook project, created in association with Beijing artist Wen Fang, already has more than 3,000 masked portraits made by individuals from more than 40 countries around the world. In January, it is Lyon’s turn to host exciting workshops in order to capture the most beautiful portraits.

We are therefore counting on you to create the most inventive masks possible, always using objects from waste and refuse (DIY here) as part of the upcycling movement. (Upcycling is the act of recovering materials or products that are no longer in use, in order to transform them into materials or products of superior quality or utility!)

It should be remembered that a metropolitan area on the scale of Lyon will see 980 pollution deaths per year or more than two per day. In Lyon in 2015, the quantity of micrograms of nitrogen dioxide per cubic meter was 38, when the national average didn’t exceed 25, and the red zone for human health starts at 40 micrograms. Nevertheless, we know that it is possible to make changes thanks to a collective will.

It is time to say no to global warming and air pollution!

On Sunday 27th January 2019, you are invited to exhibit your most beautiful masks!

Meeting point at the Place des Terreaux in Lyon, at 2 pm.
