Breathe Mother Breathe

Explanation of my mask and its message
This mask is composed of two photographs: one is the classic cover image of the Amazon, and the other depicts the toll of the depredation of nature reserves by the practice of informal mining in the region of Madre de Dios, Peru; both have been deposited on the filter system for breathing in an industrial mask. Likewise, a gold monolith is distinguished from the exhalation valve that points to the earth like an ancient Inca symbol. Taking this into account, the user is subjected to a poetic situation of “respiratory photography”, in the midst of two antagonistic scenarios, as well as the inability to expire due to the obstruction of a memory of extractive colonial history.

This mask was created especially for me by the artist Giancarlo Valverde, as part of the Maskbook campaign for the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
