Maskbook workshop at the UN Environment, Paris
A unique Maskbook workshop took place in the Parisian offices of UN Environment (UNEP - United Nations Environment Programme) on the 28th of September 2016 within the framework of the international environmental authority's partnership with Art of Change 21.
Following the success of UN Environment's workshop held within the Kenyan UN headquarters in Nairobi last May, with the participation of former UN Environment executive director Achim Steiner and scientific director Jaqueline McGlade, it was time for the Parisian office to host a Maskbook event.
The workshop was launched on the initiative of Martina Otto, head of the City and Lifestyles Unit at the UN Environment, Paris, and Sophie Loran, in the capacity of her role as Communications Officer. The event gathered the teams around environmental stakes, issues, and their solutions by allowing every participant to propose personal answers promoting sustainable ways of life.
Every single ingredient utilized for the masks' creation came directly from local recycling circuits (many thanks to La Petite Rockette for its invaluable help!): toys, cardboards, packages, electronic waste... found a new life between the hands of the UN Environment's team members!
At the end of this workshop, a photo shoot was organised by photographer Rémy Deluze: more than thirty masks were captured by the artist!
Here is a selection of a few masks created during this unique event:
Sustainable City by Martina Otto
Organic Food by Tim Kasten (Deputy Director and Coordinator at the UN Environment)
Solar Africa by Sophie Loran
Green Finance by Merlyn Van Voore (Coordinator for the UN Environement's engagement with the Adaptation Fund)
The City of the Future, Today by André Confiado
SOS by Deirdre Shurland
